Michayla’s Specialty Areas
Michayla is a compassionate therapist who supports clients navigating a wide range of emotional challenges. With 8 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults, she tailors her approach to meet the unique needs of each individual, recognizing the importance of cultural backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. Michayla works with clients from a variety of backgrounds, as well as those within the LGBTQIA+ community. She is committed to creating an inclusive, non-judgmental space where all clients feel heard, supported, and respected as they work through therapy. Michayla fosters an environment of acceptance, helping individuals explore their emotions and heal in a way that honors their unique experiences.
Children
Michayla specializes in supporting children who face emotional and behavioral challenges such as temper tantrums, anger, anxiety, difficulty focusing, and school-related issues. She also helps children navigate significant life changes, including family separation, grief, and moving. Through play therapy, children are given a safe space to express emotions they may not yet have the words for, addressing trauma, fears, and anxiety. Michayla uses mindfulness-based practices and creative activities to build resilience, emotional regulation, and healthy coping skills.
Teens
With teens, Michayla addresses challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, identity development, and social pressures. She works with student-athletes to manage performance stress, and helps teens who feel overwhelmed by the complexities of growing up. She also supports teens navigating family separation, grief, and transitions. Michayla fosters a supportive environment where teens feel empowered to take control of their mental health, develop emotional regulation tools, and work through self-esteem issues. She focuses on equipping teens with healthy coping mechanisms that support long-term emotional growth and well-being.
Adults
For adults, Michayla works with individuals managing depression, anxiety, mood disturbance, and experiences of trauma. She has specific experience supporting survivors of childhood abuse, first responders, healthcare workers, and individuals in life transition. She helps adults heal from past trauma, overcome feelings of being stuck, and gain clarity as they navigate significant life changes. Michayla uses a strength-based, trauma-informed approach to help clients reconnect with their values and move forward with greater emotional balance and self-compassion.
Michayla’s Therapy Approaches
Mindfulness-Based Play-Family Therapy for Children
Michayla integrates mindfulness-based play-family therapy to help children process their emotions, manage stress, and develop healthier coping skills. Through creative activities like storytelling and sand play, children can better express and understand their feelings. This approach encourages emotional regulation and resilience, with family involvement to ensure ongoing support at home and school.
Collaborative, Client-Centered Therapy for Teens
Michayla works collaboratively with teens, providing a safe, open space for them to explore their emotions, identity, and challenges. Mindfulness techniques and cognitive-behavioral strategies are used to address anxiety, depression, and stress. She empowers teens to take responsibility for their mental health and equips them with tools for emotional regulation, helping them navigate with more confidence and clarity.
Strength-Based, Trauma-Informed Therapy for Adults
Michayla uses a trauma-informed, strength-based approach to support adults healing from past trauma and navigating life transitions. She incorporates EMDR to process distressing memories and help reduce their emotional impact. Complemented by mindfulness practices, Michayla promotes emotional healing, self-awareness, and the release of trauma and emotional tension stored in the mind and the body.
Holistic Involvement
Michayla recognizes the importance of school, work and family dynamics in the healing process. She works with families to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and increase supports. This holistic approach ensures emotional growth extends beyond therapy sessions into daily life.
